The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting Tuesday night, November 4, at the Rustic Grill at 6:30 p.m. With Dianna Wedincamp presiding, they had 14 in attendance including guests, Johnna Eaton and Joele Romanchik-Cerpovicz. Karen Daniels won the Apple Dump cake donated by Wanda Ellis, Cheryl Goodman won the Domino’s pizza donated by Domino’s and gave it to Johnna Eaton, and Dianna Wedincamp and Deana Patrick won the Christmas cookies and Dianna donated the cookies to Johnna’s kids. The program for the evening was hosted by David Gribbin who introduced Johnna Eaton, the new Director of the EGSC Swainsboro Campus of Georgia Southern University (GSU). Although Eaton has worked for EGSC since 2003, she began her current job on July 1 of this year, as EGSC and GSU began the process of consolidation of the two institutions. The college has formed CAT’s (Consolidation Action Teams) to prepare a prospectus to submit to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS COC) for review of the substantive change, hopefully completed by July 1, 2026. Eaton noted that the management of the dorms will be shifted to GSU. This Fall semester, both institutions experienced a 7.7% growth, so it is well on its way. She indicated the Swainsboro students would see very little fee adjustments and some changes will occur in the athletics programs with NAIA possibilities. In order to produce a unified brand, the Bobcat will be changed to a different mascot. EGSU and EGSC continue to work, combining two different computer operating systems. Student Services at GSU is enthusiastic about the EGSC Bees and Bee Campus.
