The East Georgia State College (EGSC) Bobcat Pantry recently received a $5,000 grant from the Georgia Power Foundation. The grant will be used to help stock the on-campus food pantry to benefit students at the College. Georgia Power focuses on supporting causes contributing to the well-being of the communities they serve. Local Georgia Power representatives determine which local organizations to invest in by directing funding where it has the most impact.

“We are so thankful for this generous donation from the Georgia Power Foundation,” said Harley Smith, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at EGSC. “The Bobcat Pantry is such an important resource on our campus to help our students succeed, and we appreciate Georgia Power recognizing that need and helping us support our students.”

As part of Embark Georgia and a partner of Golden Harvest Food Bank, the EGSC Bobcat Pantry helps provide students with some of the basic needs they may not be able to attain through other means. Students can be referred for assistance or apply. The Bobcat Pantry was organized to ensure that all students attending EGSC are not adversely affected in their academic studies due to an inability to meet their basic needs.

The Bobcat Pantry provides educational and personal counseling, mentoring, personal care items, and food assistance. These services can be requested confidentially through submission of an online form. Requests are reviewed to determine the need and to what extent it can be responded to within a 24-48 business hour period. Students are then contacted and informed of where they can receive their requested items. Additionally, students can stop by the Bobcat Pantry during operating hours to complete an in-take form.

East Georgia State College would like to thank the Georgia Power Foundation for their support of the Bobcat Pantry and EGSC’s students.
