Emanuel Medical Center is pleased to announce the completion of its Emergency Department renovation project. With construction now finalized, patients should resume using the original Emergency Department entrance located on the north side of the hospital. The temporary ER entrance at the rear of the building is no longer in use.
Construction began in late September and included a full redesign of the existing Emergency Department, the addition of new patient treatment rooms, and a dedicated low acuity treatment area (LATA). The project was designed to expand capacity, reduce wait times, and enhance the overall patient experience.
During construction, the Emergency Department operated from a temporary location at the rear of the hospital, in the space typically used for ICU. To accommodate this shift, ICU services were temporarily relocated to the second floor. Now, with renovations complete, the Emergency Department has returned to its original location, with the relocation of ICU to soon follow.
“I am proud of how both my ED and ICU teams have navigated their relocations. They have been flexible, gracious, and steadfast. I am also thankful for the kindness and patience shown by our patients and community throughout this process. Without the support of both our staff and patients this would not have been possible,” said Mary Radford, Chief Nursing Officer. “I am excited to see our newly renovated department in action. It is a beautiful space with increased functionality for both our patients and staff. A lot of hard work, thought, and effort has gone in to making this renovation a true improvement of the patient experience in our emergency department. It is my hope that each patient of our ED will be able to see and feel the changes we have made and will continue to choose Emanuel Medical Center to provide their healthcare needs.”
The expansion was made possible through multiple funding sources, including two Rural Hospital Stabilization Grants from the State Office of Rural Health and a State Economic Infrastructure Development Grant from the Southeast Crescent Regional Commission. Additional support came through the Georgia HEART program, which allows Georgia taxpayers to redirect their state income tax dollars to eligible rural hospitals like Emanuel Medical Center. Contributions through Georgia HEART have helped fund numerous local healthcare improvements, from new medical services to vital equipment upgrades.
“We’re excited to be back ‘home’ in our Emergency Department,” said Brooke Marsh, ED Manager. “It feels like a brand-new space, brighter, better organized, and built with our patients in mind. But this renovation isn’t just about how things look, it’s about how we deliver care. It’s designed to help us respond more efficiently and provide an even higher level of service to our community.”
