George Arthur Brinson, age 81, of Twin City, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 15, at 12 p.m. at the Emanuel County Institute Auditorium. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 13, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Greater Mount Olive Overcoming Church of God in Douglasville.
Elder George Arthur Brinson was born April 29, 1944, the youngest of seven children born to the late Thomas “Bookie” Brinson and Inez Turner Brinson, affectionally called “Mother Brinson” by all. He was a graduate of the Emanuel County High School in Swainsboro where he was active in the chorus, band and dance group. While at Savanah State University, George sang in the Men’s Glee Club. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. George earned a master’s degree in education from Savanah State Armstrong State Graduate Center and completed work on his specialty degree from West Georgia University. George taught school in several locations including Laurens County, Emanuel County (ECI), Chatham County and in Clayton County where he was the first black male teacher at the school. He became an assistant principal and principal in that school system. After George’s retirement, he became a substitute teacher and was called “Mr. B” by all.
After George’s retirement, he traveled widely including St. Vincent Island, the Grenadine Islands, China, Dubai, Aruba, Grand Turks, Princess Cays, Cabo Mexico, New Orleans, Mississippi, Illinois, North Carolina Beach, Las Vegas, Arizona, and saw the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam. Most of these trips were with friends, Rosa Hixon “Ro Ro” and Jil Schroeder “Baby Girl.”
Elder Brinson gave his life to Christ at an early age at Holy Zion Holiness Church where he received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. He served on the ministerial staff at Pentecostal Miracle Deliverance Center, Savannah Cathedral of Faith Church of God in Christ, Atlanta. He was a faithful member of Greater Mount Olive Overcoming Church where he served on the Ministerial upon his departure of this life. Mr. Brinson is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dennis and Thomas Edwards; sisters, Martha Lee Brinson Ward, Rhodia Mae Brinson Williams and Elease Brinson Gray.
Mr. Brinson leaves to cherish his memories with two daughters, Andrea Brinson Lochan of Fairburn and Tiffany Brinson Garcia of Alpharetta; ex-wife, Mattie Ricks; two brothers, Rev. Bennie Brinson of Twin City and Randall Johnson (Sam) of Hamilton, VA; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; his traveling friends, Rosa Hixon and Jill Schroeder; and his adoptive son, Jimmie Sanders.
In memory of Elder Brinson, the family has requested no flowers but do request that contributions be made to: American Cancer Society – Registration Number 13-1788491.
