The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, April 28, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 48 in attendance. Shari Watt provided a great breakfast of creamy grits, breakfast casserole, donuts, fresh fruit orange juice, cranberry juice, grape juice, apple juice and coffee. The speaker was Malissa Hancock, Director of the Food Distribution at the Lazarus Project building. She talked about the mission of the Food Distribution Center located at 664 South Main Street, Swainsboro. The mission of the Food Distribution is to serve our community and uplifting those in need. As Matthew 25:35 says: “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger, and you invited me in”. Their food give away is the second Saturday of each month and begins at 10 a.m. Also, chair Johnny gave an update on the “Veterans Cup Golf Tournament” that is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, at the Swainsboro Country Club. Daniels Chevrolet is sponsoring the “hole in one” prize of $10,000.00 for anyone making a hole in one during the tournament. There are plenty of door prizes to be given away.
