Honors Night Ceremony held at East Georgia State College

On Monday, April 21, East Georgia State College (EGSC) hosted their Annual Honors Night Ceremony in the Luck F. Gambrell Building Auditorium. Faculty, staff, students, and their families were invited to attend the celebration that recognizes the hard work of EGSC students.

Dr. David Schecter, president of EGSC, welcomed the award winners and their families to campus followed by Dr. Catherine Whelan, Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, who began recognizing students.

The first student recognized was Blake Hendrix. He was awarded the University System of Georgia Outstanding Scholar Award.

The next set of awards were the Emily Pestana-Mason Memorial Poetry Contest Award winners. Grace Gordon received first place, and Elizabeth Foldes was awarded second place in the competition.

The Outstanding Graduate Awards were presented to students who graduated in Fall of 2024 or who are graduating in May who excelled in their subject area of study. The following students received the awards:

• Associate of Arts in Elementary Education: Rachel Strickland

• Associate of Arts in Social Sciences: Joseph Kisel, Jr.

• Associate of Arts Liberal Arts – General Track: Christina Collins

• Associate of Science in Business Administration: Blake Hendrix

• Associate of Science in Natural Sciences: Hudson Sherrod

• Associate of Arts Liberal Arts – Computer Science Track: Peyton Rich

• Associate of Arts Liberal Arts – Nursing Track: Anna Kate Beasley

• Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice: Kayla Stone

The Subject Area Awards were presented to students for their performance in the subject area. The recipients were selected by faculty members. The following awards were presented:

• Art Award: Jamie Ferry

• Biology Award: Susie Thompson

• Business Administration Award: Grace Gordon and Karlee Powell

• Chemistry Award: CheyAnne Woodcock Howard

• Criminal Justice Award: Malana Moore

• Elementary Education Award: Savannah Morgan

• English Award: Brylen Goss

• History Award: Mako Tippins and Talan Dixon

• Mathematics Award: Nohdia Brister

• Political Science Award: Joseph Kisel, Jr. and Nicholas Jackson

• Psychology: Kari Tuberville and Tiffany Pound

• Sociology Award: Ruby Jane Tippins

The Leadership and Service in Campus Activities Awards were presented to students who are involved on campus and have a passion for serving others. The following Leadership and Service Awards were presented:

• African American Male Initiative (AAMI) Award: Jontavian Johnson

• African American Union Award: Jashawn Bacon

• Art Mania Club Award: Zoe Carter

• Bobcat Beekeeping Club Award: CheyAnne Howard

• Bobcat Spirit Cheer Award: Tabria Spicer

• The Book Club Award: Angela Montgomery

• Circle K Club Award: CheyAnne Howard

• Dance Team Award: Autumn Grafton

• Disc Golf Club Award: Zariyah Cummings

• Dungeons & Dragons Club Award: Stockton Patterson

• H.O.L.A. Club Award: Daniel Adorno-Pagan

• Student Ambassadors Award: Janiyah Smith

• Student Athlete Advisory Council Award: Jalen Gallman

• Student Government Association Award: Jashawn Bacon

• Unity Club Award: Ti’Tianna Settles

The Student Athletics Awards were presented to students who excelled on the field or court and also in the classroom. The following student athletes received awards for their performance:

• Baseball: Blake Hendrix

• Men’s Basketball: Jalen Gallman

• Softball: Harlee Mills

• Women’s Basketball: Christina Collins

• eSports: Mauricio Martinez-Matias

The following students were inducted in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society: Jasmine Crew, Alyssa Fletcher, Susie Thompson, Tabitha Huddleston, Clark Lincoln, Lauren Scott, and Kelly Slowinski.

The Annual President’s List and Dean’s List recipients were recognized on stage and given a certificate for their achievement. The following students were presented with Annual President’s List certificates: Bailey Arnold, Blake Hendrix, Joseph Kisel, Levi Shaw, Kayla Stone, Ashley Tanner, Ruby Tippins, Kari Tuberville, Preston White, and Mary Grace Winfrey.

The following students were named on the Annual Dean’s List: Samantha Bannister, Ryan Barnes, Connor Belgin, Mckenzie Broadwater, Cailen Carey, Daniella Cartaya, Christina Collins, Jasmine Crew, Hugh Edgy, Jamie Ferry, Arianna Gleaton, Grace Ann Gordon, Tripp Helgeson, Jontavian Johnson, Chasity Mack, Connor McAfee, Bowen Meeks, Terrell Milliner, Robert Morgan, Kia Moss, Cade Mulligan, John Prosnak, Peyton Rich, Aaron Salazar, Carlee Smith, Desiree Smith, Rachel Strickland, and Caleb Williams.
