Tomlinson Funeral Home & Crematory announces the death of Mr. James Clark Rachels, age 82, of Wadley, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at his residence. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 27, at 1 p.m. at Coleman Chapel Methodist Church.

Interment followed in the church cemetery with Masonic rites. Family received friends from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services.

Pallbearers were George Rachels, III, Charles Rachels, Cameron Rider, Jimmy Rider, Daniel Kurtz, Jeff Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Stonewall Lodge #98 members.

Mr. Rachels was born June 3, 1943, in Jefferson County, to the late George Wesley and Mary Elizabeth Cox Rachels, Sr. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia. James was a member of Coleman Chapel Methodist Church, Stonewall Lodge #98 in Louisville and the Alee Temple. He was also a Mason. In 2008, James retired from PCL Constructors. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rachels is preceded in death by his brother, George Wesley Rachels, Jr; and infant son, James Clark Rachels, Jr.

Mr. Rachels is survived by his daughter, Tammy Elizabeth Dooley (Greg); son, Jimmy Rider (Chana); sisters, Sally Ann Archer and Bobbie Jean Grover; grandchildren, Wesley Dooley, Rachel Wright, Cameron Rider, Ahsley Osborne, Emily Rider and Grayson Rider; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Su Rachels; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Charlene Lampp, Frankie Lampp (Linda) and family, Brittany Kurtz (Daniel) and family and Lynn Davis (Judy); furry little friend, Maggie.

The family invites friends to make memorial contributions to: Shriner’s Hospital or St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

Tomlinson Funeral Home & Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
