Jean was laid to rest at Eastbrook Cemetery. Up until the end, she maintained her grace, compassion, kindness, love of family, appreciation of beauty, and expressed gratitude for 87 years of wonderful and varied experiences.
Pallbearers were James Paul, Chris Richardson, James Amerson, Josh Amerson, Bo Akridge and Jared Lane. Honorary pallbearers were Nick Roundtree and Cassidy Jordan.
Born to Alphonso and Emma Monaco on October 15, 1937, in Pueblo, Colorado, Jean was the youngest of eight children. Her life was a testament to the seven “Fs”: Faith, Family, Freedom, Friends, Flowers, Food and Fun. In Jean’s long life, she experienced an abundance of each.
Jean’s professional life was marked by her dedication to serving people. Due to her many moves across the United States from Nevada to Virginia to Florida and several stops in be-tween, she had numerous jobs. Through the years, Jean worked as an insurance agent, a cash-ier, a waitress, in an officer’s club, and for a credit union to name a few. Her coworkers will remember her for her unwavering commitment to excellence and her joyful spirit that bright-ened the day of everyone she encountered. Jean’s work was not just a job, but an opportunity to form lasting relationships and make a positive impact on her community.
When Jean’s health allowed, she was an active member of New Beginnings in Christ Church in Garfield. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a prayer warrior, committed to bombarding the throne room of heaven for the needs of her family, her friends, her neighbors, and strangers among her. She lived her beliefs through her daily deeds, always extending a hand of friendship and support to those around her.
Jean didn’t just love, but she loved with a passion, a passion she had for her sweet Jesus, her family, and her nation. She was a devout Christian, a mother, a grandmother, and a patriot. She was courageous in her walk, bold in her talk, and suited to battle the forces of darkness that came against her family.
Jean enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Spending time with the Lord Jesus Christ, His Word, and with her family was her greatest desire. She loved singing and dancing when her health would allow it. She was a fixture in her church’s choir prior to having to use a walker for mo-bility. Jean found peace and solitude in gardening, and her family, friends, and neighbors are truly going to miss her Italian and Mexican dishes. Ms. Roundtree is preceded in death by her parents, Alphonso and Emma Monaco; son, James Roundtree; five brothers, Edward Monaco, Richard Monaco, Ren Monaco, Louie Monaco and Alphonso Monaco; and two sisters, Sally Bacco-Marchand and Anne Visker.
Ms. Roundtree’s legacy of love, compassion, kindness, faithfulness, forgiveness and self-sacrifice will live on through her children, Andrew (Tammy) Roundtree of Dublin, Michael (Debbie) Roundtree of Swainsboro, Melanie Todd of Swainsboro, Marsha (Tony) Amerson of Stillmore and Monica Hermann of Swainsboro; 20 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her multitude of nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, it was Jean’s desire that all donations go to either: St. Jude’s Children Hospi-tal, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306.
Chapman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
