Jennifer Lavern Whitfield, age 82, peacefully entered eternal rest on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, surrounded by care and love, at St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, VA, after a brief illness. A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, January 31, at 11 a.m. at New Mount Moriah AME Church with Rev. Samuel Cooper, Jr. officiating and Rev. Stanley Moore presiding.
Jennifer, affectionally known as Jean, was born May 24, 1943, to the late Robert Mack and Irene J. Mack. She graduated from Emanuel County High School in 1961. In 1973, Jennifer began her distinguished career with the City of Philadelphia as a Pre-Sentence Investigator for the Court of Common Pleas where she served with dedication and integrity for 30 years, retiring in 2003. Mrs. Whitfield is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Willie Whitfield; and grandson, Hiram Prince Whitfield.
Mrs. Whitfield leaves to cherish her memories with her son, Patrice J. Whitfield (Shontel); two bonus sons, Reginald Jones (Karen) and Allen Holmes (Libby); two beloved granddaughters; a host of great-grandchildren and bonus grandchildren; a brother; and a host of other relatives and friends who held a special place in her heart.
Mosley’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
