Mr. Jerry Gene Morris, Sr., age 77, of the Nunez, passed away on Monday morning, May 6, 2024, at his home. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 8, at 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs Cemetery with Reverend Milton Thomas and Bill Griffin officiating. Family received friends at the graveside and friends and family called at the home of Wayne and Wrena Morris.

Serving as pallbearers were Hunter Whitaker, Danton Morris, Jordan Morris, Phillip Morris, Brad Spann, Jim Palmer and Ricky Meeks.

Born in Laurens County, Jerry was the youngest of two sons born to the late Thomas Ralph Morris and Dorothy Hazel Hall Morris. He grew up in Adrian and was a 1965 graduate of Adrian High School. In January of 1966, Jerry enlisted and served in the United States Air Force. He worked in the Construction Industry as a carpenter, working his last fifteen years with Adrian Housing, until retiring in 2000. Jerry enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting squirrels. In addition to his parents, Mr. Morris is preceded in death by his wife of thirty-two years, Lorraine, who passed away in 2022.

Mr. Morris leaves behind his children, Jerry “Gene” Morris Jr. (Susie) of Charlotte, NC and Amy Morris Whitaker of Savannah; brother, Wayne Morris (Wrena) of Adrian; two grandchildren, Hunter Austin Whitaker and Hannah Nichole Whitaker; four great-grandchildren, Parker Reed Smith, River Lee Whitaker, Sadie Claire Whitaker and Weston Milton Brown; nephew, Danton Wayne Morris; and two nieces, Jamie Allison Morris and Stefanie Jill Spann.

Sammons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
