Mr. John D. Scott, 84, of Swainsboro, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025, at his residence. Funeral Services were held Monday, December 15, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Bedgood and Reverend Jonathan Shephard officiating. Interment will be private in Eastbrook Cemetery at a later time. Family received friends one hour prior to the service.

John was born March 14, 1941, in Swainsboro, to JD Scott Sr. and Sara Scott. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Swainsboro. John retired after 33 years of dedicated service with Derst Baking Company, known to many as Sunbeam Bread. In addition to his professional career, he proudly served his country for nine years in the National Guard. A devoted man of God, John cherished his family above all else. He also found great joy and peace in his pecan trees and working in his garden, passions that reflected his patient, nurturing spirit. John will be remembered for his faith, hard work, and the love he shared with all who knew him. Mr. Scott is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Scott; and son-in-law, Ricky Thurman.

Mr. Scott is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Scott of Swainsboro; children, Terry Thurman, Vince (April) Scott; grandchildren, Joseph Thurman, August Thurman, Colby (Tara) Scott, Jaycee (Schuyler) Johnson; sisters, Mary Ann Smith, Sara Jo Britt and Judy (Michael) Bright; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made in memory of Mr. John D. Scott to: Pruitt Hospice, 667 S. Main St., Swainsboro, GA 30401 or First Baptist Church Brotherhood, 240 W. Main St., Swainsboro, GA 30401.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
