Mr. John “Jamie” Moxley, age 90, of Swainsboro, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Emanuel County Medical Center in Swainsboro. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 29, at 11 a.m. at Hawhammock Baptist Church, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at the church.

Jamie was born in Swainsboro and spent most of his life in the community he loved. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961, including an overseas assignment in South Korea. Fresh out of high school, Jamie began his career at Darling’s Five and Dime and went on to spend over 35 years in the retail business. He was best known for managing Gibson’s in Swainsboro, where he was a familiar and trusted presence to many. In Jamie’s later years, he worked with Life of Georgia Insurance and Tomlinson Funeral Home until his retirement. Jamie enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and especially spending time at his favorite place “The Shack” in Twin City, with his extended family. He was a faithful member of Hawhammock Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Director for many years. His devotion to his church family and to the Lord was evident in both word and action. Jamie will be remembered for his unwavering faith, devotion to family, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met. He lived a full and honorable life, leaving a lasting legacy of love and service. Mr. Moxley is preceded in death by his mother, Marion Hall Moxley; beloved wife of 66 years, Maxine Quick Moxley; son, Alan Keith Moxley; and grandson, Matthew Joseph Mitchell.

Mr. Moxley is survived by his daughters, Karen Mitchell (Joe) and Patricia Cox; five grandchildren, Tim Cox (Ashley), Jeffery Cox (Bonnie), Caroline Harris (Brian), Lauren Harbin (Dykes) and John Moxley (Hannah); six great-grandchildren, Trenton Cox, Finn Harris, Lucy Harris, Bertram Harbin, Ward Harbin and George Moxley, and many nieces, nephews and many cherished friends.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” Matthew 25:23

The family expresses sincere appreciation to the hospice team at Georgia Hospice, as well as Tena Murray, for their care and compassion for Jamie during his final days.

Tomlinson Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
