Mr. John William Turner, age 92, of Twin City, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at his residence. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 7, at 2 p.m. at Twin City First Baptist Church with Pastor Curt Grimm officiating, assisted by Mr. G.W. Johnson. Family received friends one hour prior to services. Interment followed in Hebron Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Trent Turner, Bret Andrews, Brandon Jones, Greg Johnson, Johnny Johnson, Larry Johnson, David Ursery and David Turner. Honorary pallbearers were the Twin City Lions Club.

John was born October 19, 1933, in Garfield, to the late Iva J. Turner and Ila Mae Daniels Turner.

He was a master carpenter. John could do things with wood that the average carpenter could ever do. He learned his trade when he was 14 years old. John’s dad was already a well-known builder in the area, so he learned from one of the best. Some of his projects were both the auditoriums and old gyms in Swainsboro and Twin City. To show how good of a carpenter John was the gym he built in Twin City is still utilized today. John and his dad built the first addition to Emanuel Medical Center. Daddy was proud of the restoring of The Edenfield Inn and The Coleman House. He built many new homes and a large amount of houses in the old golf course section.

John was a member of the Board of Education for 12 years He also served as a councilman in Twin City for about 12 years. John was the assistant fire chief for approximately 25 years and when Mr. James Neal retired, he took the title of fire chief for about 15 years. One of his greatest accomplishments besides work, was his dedication to the Twin City Lions Club. He and Loy D. Cowart were the only charter members left. John was also awarded into the National Lions Club Hall of Fame for a perfect attendance record of 64 years.

John will be remembered for his hard work, love for his family, and helping needy people in times of distress. He was happiest when working on his tractor at the farm or around his house. John also enjoyed cutting grass with his zero turn. Last but not least, if you knew John William, you knew where y’all stood because he would quickly let you know where he stood on any issue. God bless John William Turner. Mr. Turner is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Cannady Turner; and brother, James Earl Turner.

Mr. Turner is survived by his sons, Randy Turner and Ricky Turner (Margaret), both of Twin City; daughter, Marilyn Turner of Twin City; sister, Charlene Oglesby of Statesboro; grandchildren, Andria Andrews (Brett) of Evans and Trent Turner (Riley) of Milton; great-grandchildren, Mary Sydney Andrews, Peyton Seitz (Jackson), Tegan Lynn Turner and Asten Rae Turner; great-great grandson, Paxton Parker.

Durden-Hudson Funeral was in charge of arrangements.
