The ECI softball team hosted region opponent Portal on Senior Night. The Lady Dawgs celebrated those five seniors defeating the Panther 12-0 in 4 innings. Five seniors recognized for their four year career as a Lady Dawg student athlete were Kayanna Thompson, Jayna Kearson, Kinley Grimes, Abbey Marsh, and Maddie Funderburk. The Bulldogs put 3 on the board in the first to take an early 3-0 lead. They extended their lead to 9-0 in the bottom of the third plating 5 more runs. They ended the game in the fourth scoring 4, to run rule the Panthers 12-0. Jayna Kearson’s 3 hits, 2 doubles and Mary Katherine Durden’s 2 hits led the Dawgs with multiple hits. One stat that stands out for the Lady Dawg pitching staff is that opposing teams best be swinging away. Mary Katherine Durden (5), and Charley Mitchell (4) have yielded a total of just 9 walks in the 16 games played this season. Durden pitched the 4 innings against Portal allowing 1 hit, 0 walks while striking out 7 Panther batters. Durden and her defense held Portal to just 2 baserunners with a single in the third and on an error in the fourth. The Dawgs have two games on the schedule this week. Yesterday, Tuesday, September 3, they hosted the Indians from Vidalia and end the week in Pembroke on Thursday to take on Bryan Co.
