Larry Sheppard Boyd, age, 81, passed away peacefully at home in Dublin on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Services were held Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at Charity Baptist Church. Burial followed at Dublin Memorial Garden with Rev. Tim Powell and Rev. Billy Glosson officiating. Family received friends from 1:30 p.m. until service hour at the church.

Pallbearers were John Durham, Michael Lewis, Greg Bennett, Kenneth Kight, Kelly Canady and Hugh Kight.

Larry was born August 28, 1943, in Allendale, South Carolina, to the late Loryea Lee and Romie Sheppard Boyd. He was a man whose life was characterized by kindness, friendliness, and love. Larry’s life was marked by a steadfast commitment to his community and country. He proudly served in the South Carolina National Guard for 38 years, a testament to his dedication and patriotism. His leadership skills and passion for mentoring youth were evident in his role as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 68, where he guided many young men on their path to becoming responsible and caring adults. He worked 28 years in the textile industry at JP Stevens, and was co-owner of Summer Willow Assisted Living in Swainsboro. A man of faith, Larry was a long-time member of First Baptist Church and later attended Charity Baptist Church, where he found solace and fellowship. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his existence, providing him with strength and guidance throughout his journey. Larry’s interests and passions were a reflection of his vibrant personality. An avid sports fan, he was a fervent supporter of the South Carolina Gamecocks and held a secondary allegiance to the Georgia Bulldogs. His impeccable sense of style was apparent to all who knew him, as he was always “dressed to a tee”. Westerns were a source of great enjoyment for Larry, and he could often be found watching his favorite films. Larry’s presence was a gift to those who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his absence will be deeply felt by many. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. Mr. Boyd is preceded in death by his parents; and his cherished daughter, Sherrie Boyd.

Mr. Boyd is survived by his devoted wife, Yvonne Kight Boyd of Dublin; former wife and mother of his three children, Barbara I. Boyd; daughters, Kimberly B. Durham (John) of McDonough and Cindy B. Lewis (Michael) of St. Simons Island; brother, Edward L. Boyd (Sally) of Beaufort, SC; step-children, Angie Bennett of Swainsboro and Greg Bennett of Swainsboro; beloved grandchildren, Faith Durham, McKenzie Durham Bullard, Jackson Lewis, Cody Bennett and Oliver Bennett; great-grandchildren, Johnny Bennett and Ellie Jo Bennett; and niece, Casey B. Gelvin.

Townsend Brothers Funeral Home of Dublin was in charge of arrangements.
