Lawrence Floyd Sherrod, 83, of Waynesboro, entered into rest Saturday morning, October 25, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 28, at 2 p.m. at Union Grove Methodist Church in Midville with Rev. Randy Carnley officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Family received friends Monday, October 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Deloach McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home in Waynesboro.

Active pallbearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were John Green, Masonic Masons, Alee Shriners, and Union Grove Men’s club members.

Floyd was born in Swainsboro to the late Lawrence Lee and Mattie Farthing Sherrod. He was a resident of Hephzibah until moving to Waynesboro in 2022. Floyd grew up on the family farm in Midville where he found enjoyment in operating his tractors and heavy equipment. Through Floyd’s love and dedication for farming, he expanded the footprint and established Sherrod Farms. He was employed as a pipefitter for Daniels Construction before starting his own company, Industrial Contractors, in 1974.

Floyd was a long-time member of Union Grove Methodist Church. As a young man, he joined and served in the United States Army and the Army National Guard. Throughout the years, Floyd was an active member of the Acacia Lodge, Augusta Shrine Club (past president and treasurer), Alee Shriners, Jesters (past director), Beech Island Farmer’s Club, Hephzibah Farm Club, Augusta Shrine Club and Golf Unit (past president) and the CSRA Shag Club.

Floyd was a loving, loyal, and dedicated husband, father, and papa. He loved and cherished his family and always looked forward to times they spent together. Floyd was known as a hard worker but when time allowed, he enjoyed dancing, golfing, cooking, fishing, RVing with his wife, and was an avid Georgia Bulldog supporter. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sherrod is preceded in death by his sister, Melva Cadwell; and his mother-in-law, Mildred Bridges.

Mr. Sherrod is survived by his wife of 46 years, Martha Bridges Sherrod of Waynesboro; five children, Brenda Sherrod Holland (Donnie) of Fernandina Beach, FL, Gregory Floyd Sherrod (Tina) of Midville, Tyson Wayne Sherrod (Stacey) of Midville, Rodney Damon Walker of Augusta and Russell Lewis Walker of Edgefield, SC; grandchildren, Wes Jenkins (Lacey) of North Augusta, SC, Marle Mobley (Daniel) of Sardis, Clayton Sherrod of Aiken, SC, Brandon Sherrod of Charlotte, NC, Dalton Sherrod of Nashville, TN, Aaron Sherrod (Alexa) of Midville, Jarrett Walker of Charlotte, NC, Tucker Walker, Mason Walker, Damon Walker, Amanda Hornyak, Austin VanGelder, all of North Augusta, SC and Andrew Bedichek (Mary) of Athens; 15 great-grandchildren, Averi, Landry Kate, Easton, Riggs, Cash, Cohen, Eli, Asher, Bentley, Huntleigh, Braxley, J. Strom, Field, Anne Holland and Graham; sister-in-law, Ramona Martin (Ernie) of Waynesboro; several nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Union Grove Methodist Church, or the Shriners Children’s Hospital, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

On behalf of his family, we would like to send a sincere “Thank You” to the many friends and family who helped care for Floyd (Dad) during his illness. A special “Thank You” to Christine Crawford (caregiver) for taking such good care of him and making him laugh when it was nearly impossible.

DeLoach-McKerley-Prescott Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
