The Swainsboro Rotary Club met at the Rustic Grill on Monday, Feb. 24, during the noon hour for the weekly meeting. President Zack Proctor called the meeting to order and discussed new business. The club will be having the Pine Tree festival beauty Pageant on April 26. Also, the club will be having the speech contest among the area high schools. The students will give their speeches to the club and will be judged, the winner will go on to the district meeting. Mitch Fagler introduced the speaker for the meeting, Spencer Lawrence, who gave a very interesting demonstration using his archery equipment.

Spencer Lawrence is a senior homeschooled student. He is also enrolled in the Diesel Technology Program at Southeastern Technical College. Spencer is a Georgia and National Shooting Sports Ambassador through Emanuel County 4-H. The National 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador Program is designed to promote 4-H and 4-H Shooting Sports. Youth selected to serve as Ambassadors receive training that will allow them to return to their homes and advocate for the program at the county, regional, and state level. Some Ambassadors may be asked to support national events as well. Ambassadors provide public relations support at special events such as donor/sponsor functions and also serve as spokespersons for the 4-H Shooting Sports Program, helping to make 4-H and the 4H Shooting Sports Programs more visible. The Ambassadors further develop their skills in leadership, public presentation, citizenship, community service, public relations and team building.

Spencer participates in Modified Trap; Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays; and Archery as part of Emanuel County 4-H Project SAFE. Georgia 4-H Project SAFE uses the shooting sports to teach many valuable life skills. Project SAFE (Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education) provides youth a place to develop a sense of belonging, learn teamwork in a safe environment and increase concentration skills. Spencer is also active in adding a 22 RIMFIRE Team with Emanuel County 4-H.

Spencer is the son of Seneca and Whitney Lawrence. He is a member of the Kite First Baptist Church where he is active in the youth ministry.
