Two talented local musicians, Bo Brown and Grayson Brassell, recently showcased their exceptional musical abilities at the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) All-State Band, held in Athens February 27 through March 1, 2025.

The All-State Band is one of the most prestigious honors a high school band student can achieve. Bo and Grayson were selected after two highly competitive auditions, standing out among thousands of students from across the state. Their dedication and skill placed them among Georgia’s finest young musicians.

Bo earned 9th chair in the 11th-12th grade band, while Grayson secured the 1st chair position in the 9th-10th grade band—an outstanding achievement. The students spent over ten hours rehearsing with their respective bands before delivering remarkable performances that highlighted their dedication and talent.

Making the All-State Band requires countless hours of practice and commitment,” said SHS Band of Gold Director Lindy Sikes. “We are incredibly proud of Bo and Grayson for their accomplishments and the way they represented our community at this prestigious event.”

Both students had the opportunity to work with distinguished conductors during the event. Bo is pictured with Dr. Robert Ambrose from Georgia State University, and Grayson is pictured with Dr. Robert Dunham from Georgia Southern University.

Their achievements reflect not only their personal commitment to music but also the strength of the local music education program.
