On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the regular meeting of the Swainsboro Exchange Club Lt. Colby Martin of the Swainsboro Fire Department spoke to the Club about the Junior Fire Fighters Program that he has been instrumental in starting at Swainsboro High School.

He was introduced to the Club by President-elect Nicky Drake. Lt. Martin gave an overview of program. He related that the students enrolled in the Junior Fire Fighters Program will not only learn the duties of a fireman but will also learn life skills. They will do on the job training at the Fire Department, learn how to fill out a job application, interview skills and participate in live fire drills. At the end of the program, they can earn official certification as a fireman. Lt. Martin stated that this program completion could possibly lead to some of the graduates being hired at the Fire Department. Lt. Martin fielded several questions from the club membership.
