Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Mary Lee Flanders Coursey, age 87, of Bartow, on Friday, December 8, 2023, at her home. Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 11, at 11 a.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Reverend Lamar Kersey officiating and Reverend Bert Flanders to assist. Visitation was held Sunday, December 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors. Burial followed in the Sardis Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Swainsboro.

Pallbearers were Jeffrey Coursey, Wayne Kersey, Lee Flanders, Kevin Flanders, Brian Flanders and Slade Hicks.

Mrs. Coursey was born in Swainsboro to the late Ozie Lee Flanders and Elsie Stapleton Flanders. She worked in factories for many years and was a caretaker to many. Mary attended school in Oak Chapel, Blundale, and one year in Swainsboro. She was “Miss Pine Tree” and rode the float in the Pine Tree Festival Parade. Mary enjoyed gardening, fishing, and carpentry. She had many skills and talents but was most known for making quilts. Mary was dedicated to her family and loved them dearly. Mrs. Coursey is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Coursey; and brother, S.J. Flanders.

Survivors include her daughter, Kay Wilson (Tommy) of Wadley; son, Ronnie Coursey (Lisa) of Louisville; sisters, Carolyn Kersey (Lamar), Zelma Smith, Eva Nell Flanders, June Johnson (Tony) and Joyce Lamb (Joey); brothers, Bert Flanders (Julie) and O.L. Flanders (Kandi); grandchildren, Angela McArthur (Travis), Britney Wilson, A.J. Coursey (Karman) and Travis Coursey; great- grandchildren, Gracie Crego, Kohen Herman, Braylon Wilson, Nash McArthur, Ridge McArthur, Tate McArthur, Remington Coursey and Paisley Coursey; many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to: Williams Chapel Baptist Church, c/o Joyce Lamb, 338 Keith Screws Rd., Kite, GA 31049.

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
