The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, July 21, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 47 in attendance. Beta Sigma Phi fed provided a great breakfast of sausage biscuits with jelly and muffins and Shari Watt furnished the orange juice, cranberry juice, grape juice, apple juice and coffee. Chair Johnny introduced Dr. Jacob Funk, Chiropractor who works with East Georgia Healthcare Center. He talked about several services that he offers and how to get an appointment. Chair Johnny then called on Veteran John David Bailey to introduce Swainsboro Mayor Greg Bennett who talked about what’s going on in the city and all the updates for each department, especially clean-up of the city after the hurricane. He also mentioned about the paving of 27 streets in the city and the replacing of the lead pipes in the city. Mayor Greg talked about the changes in ownership of the Airport and parks and mentioned the county taking over the animal shelter and Swainsboro City Hall moving to the old Spivey Bank building. He also discussed the opening of the renovated old Dixie Theatre in about three months.
