Between the lake and the beach or the mountains, we forget the true meaning of Memorial Day. Memorial Day, established in 1971, honors those who have lost their lives serving in the United States Military. The holiday serves as a reminder of the high price of freedom and the debt of gratitude owed to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of this country.
Sergeant E-5 Ronald “Ronnie” Bruce Price was one of these men. Born in Swainsboro on June 18, 1944, he was the son of Julian and Jo Price of Swainsboro. He graduated from Swainsboro High School in 1963 and entered the Army in August 1965. His report of casualty from the Department of the Army reads “Died on 16 March 1967 in Vietnam as a result of metal fragment wounds received in hostile ground action.”
This Memorial Day, don’t let us forget Sergeant Price, along with all our fallen heroes, for their heroic leadership and supreme sacrifice.
