Emanuel County Board of Commissioners held their second meeting of 2025 Monday night, February 17, at 6 p.m. with Chairman Jim Sherrod greeting guests and opening the meeting. County Attorney Richard McNeely gave the invocation, followed by Vice Chairman Timmy Oliver leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

A motion was made to approve the minutes form the February 11, 2025 workshop meeting and the January 21, 2025, regular meeting. The next agenda item was a public hearing for an alcohol license application from Joan Turner with a motion made to approve the application. The agenda went on to Old Business and a motion was made to appoint Renae McNeely to the Franklin Memorial Library Board. In New Business, motions were made on the following: to reappoint Syvetta Young and Mary Clare Brannen to the Emanuel County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) Board; to adopt the ACCG-IRMA First Responder PTSD Resolution; to approve the Mitchell Building auction and REP; to name the newly-constructed administration building, located on Moring Street, and future home of the Emanuel County Tax Commissioner’s Office, the Emanuel County Tax Assessor’s Office and the Emanuil County Board of Elections as follows: “The Davis-Thompson Building”; to enter into an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) for the purpose of cost sharing the County’s new radio communication systems; and to send two semi-trucks to auction as surplus. Also under new business, the board announced an upcoming vacancy on the Franklin Memorial Library Board, effective in February 2025.

Next, a motion was made to enter into executive session for property discussion. Once executive session was reopened for session, there was no further business and Chairman Sherrod called for adjournment.
