I miss my visit to my hometown. My computer has let me down again. I miss this chance to say “Hello” to folks who are reading The Blade after a day of work and walking around the square. It seems that now my communications depend on the wellness of this device. You have no warning until you turn on to work on your project and find that nothing is in working order. The most frightening is a threatening virus. You question if you should give up, find a safer way or take a chance. I trust my computer because I can prepare my columns easily, and have column arrive shortly at The Blade. However, I would not have had such difficulties in my past. I was taught typing in high school by the Master of Business subjects, Ms. Edner Bailey. We learned to type rapidly and without errors in spelling or punctuation. During our classroom time, we were always seated at the typewriter working on these skills for her approval. Before finishing the class, I was skilled and accurately typing fifty words a minute. Santa must have learned of my interest in typing. For Christmas I received an Underwood portable typewriter. I was ready to put out perfectly typed pages. The typewriter could not save or send like the computer. I put the pages in an envelope, took to post office to attach the right amount of postage and put in outgoing mail. This method did not let me down, as often happens with my modern computer. The column would not arrive at The Forest-Blade for several days and a few errors might have slipped past. Missing would have been the frustration of hoping your computer would not let you down.
