The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Library Monday morning, December 8, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding they had 50 in attendance. Shari Watt provided pancakes, eggs, sausage, fruit, orange juice, cranberry juice, grape juice, apple juice and coffee. Chair Johnny introduced Melissa Peebles who works with Georgia Power. Melissa talked about the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Programs that they have. Veterans at the Library had two new veterans this morning, Veteran Nicholas Robertson and Veteran Roy Thompson. Veteran Robertson served in the U.S. States Army from February 2002 to June 2004. He was a member of the 10th Aviation Battalion at Fort Drum, NY. His highest rank was PFC. Veteran Thompson served in the Georgia Army National Guard from September 1970 until September 1976. He was part of Company D, 878th Combat Engineer Battalion, Hvy. His highest rank was E-5.

Keith Choates then presented Sara Lumbly and Shari Watt each a Christmas check for helping the Veterans this past year with their Monday morning Veterans at the Library meetings. Then DAR Jane Durden presented the Veterans at the Library with a check for $1,500.00 from the Daughters of the American Revolution to help out with the different activities that they do each year. Veteran David Hill then presented Nicholas Robertson with the Emanuel County Sherriff’s Department and Faith Jones with the Swainsboro Fire Department each with a check for $250.00 to help with their department’s Christmas Party for their help during the past year. On December 13, at 11 a.m., Veterans at the Library will place wreaths on every veteran’s grave in the Swainsboro City Cemetery after their annual WAA event, with the help of the citizens of Emanuel County.
