Peggy L. Denney, age 85, of Swainsboro, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the Emanuel Medical Center hospital. Private memorial service will be planned at a later date.

Peggy was born April 6, 1940, in Springfield, to the late Harry B. Lindsey and Ivie Boaen Lindsey.

Affectionately known to most as “Ma”, she was the definition of a strong, loving, caring, selfless person. Peggy was selfless in that she gave to anyone she knew was in need and never asked for anything in return. She never put herself above those who she loved. Ma loved her kids, grandkids, and especially her great grandkids with her whole heart. Peggy could often be found at their ball games, dance recitals, band competitions, and other sporting events, always with a smile on her face. She made everyone feel like family. Peggy loved with actions more than words but left no doubt in the minds of her family and friends as to how much she cared for them. For those who love her, she left a hole that will never be filled, but we are thankful for the memories we have with her and take comfort in knowing that we will see her again someday. Mrs. Denney is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles William Lindsey and Harry E. “Boots” Lindsey; and sister, Ruby Smith.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Mercer (Ken) of Swainsboro; sons, William A. “Bill” Denney (Pam) and James Barry Denney (Jenny), both of Springfield; sisters, Louise Yarbrough of Effingham and Penny Ann Miller of Rome; grandchildren, Ashley Denney (Lynnsey), Zack Denney, Austin Denney (Maggie), Josey Hodges (Garrett) and Chance Denney; great-grandchildren, Addison Denney, Millie Kate Denney, Channum Denney, Ellee Beth Denney, Evan Denney, Tucker Denney, Beau Hodges and Harper Hewatt; bonus great-grandson, Moss Clements; sisters-in-law, Gloria Lindsey of Savannah and Emmie Lindsey of Springfield; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro is in charge of arrangements.
