Peggy Oris Boatright Smith, age 91, entered into rest on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Family received friends Tuesday, July 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son in Augusta.

Peggy was born and raised in Twin City where she graduated from Emanuel County Institute in 1950. She is directly descended from six Patriots who fought in the American Revolution, and her ancestors lived in the Swainsboro area since before the early 1800s when her great-grandfather received a land grant. In 1952, Peggy’s family moved from their farm to Augusta, where she met her husband and raised a family. She worked in Augusta at Belk Department Store in the 1950s and 1960s, operated a children’s daycare facility in her home in the late 1960s and 1970s, and later worked at Shepherd Blood Center where she retired. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her parents, Caleb Bruce Boatright and Elma Flanders Boatright; husband of 65 years, David Phillip Smith; daughter, Dianne Patrica Smith; and sister, Betty Joyce Boatright.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her sons, David Smith, Jr. of Union, SC and Steve Smith of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Philip Smith of Augusta, Daniel Smith of Nashville, TN, Kathryn Smith and Joseph Smith of Union, SC, Kevin James of Colbert and Jeremy James of Abbeville, SC.

Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
