10U team finishes runner-up



Swainsboro-Emanuel County Recreation Department’s all-star teams competed in their respective district tournaments last week, and one group—the 10U boys—came home with the runner-up trophy. The other two teams, the 8U group and the 12U squad, represented Swainsboro-Emanuel well in their divisions.


The 10U boys began tournament play by defeating Washington County on February 16. They lost to Rincon in the championship game on February 19.


Competing in the 10U division for SECRD in the GRPA Class B, District 1 Tournament hosted by Effingham County Recreation and Parks at the Clarence E. Morgan Complex Gym were: Jayvion Sherrod, Malcolm Steele, Artis Kingsberry, Kamarion Dukes, Quintin Dukes, Ty’kevius Worthen, Caden Watson, Zi’len Boynton, Ashton David, and Charlie Fluellen. Their coaches were David Coleman, Kawame Coleman, and Quintin Dukes.


The 8U and 12U all-star district tournament for GRPA’s Class B, District 1, was held February 16-19 in Springfield. Hosted by Effingham County Recreation and Parks at the same Clarence E. Morgan Complex Gym the 10U all-stars played their district tournament at, the youngest team competing in the 8U division on behalf of Swainsboro-Emanuel was defeated by Washington County in their opening game on February 17. The 12U boys lost their first game to Washington County as well on February 18.


Members of the 8U boys team included Jonquin McKinney, ShaRon Sherrod, Emery Watson, Justin Nobles, Cameron Williams, Terrance Coleman, KJ Coleman, Jayce Sherrod, Drake Clements and De’marion Jones. Their coaches were Jonquin McKinney and Kawasquie Coleman.


Competing on the 12U boys team were Jayden Butler, Elijah Smith, Cameron Woods, Landon Stapleton, Thomas Purvis, Demetreous Hamiel, Dexter Parrish, Calynn Foots, Colten Lewis, and Jacob Trey Faircloth. This group was coached by Dexter Parrish and Michael Woods.
