Annie Mae Kemp, 87


Funeral services for Annie Mae Kemp, 87 of Swainsboro, will be held outside on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Mount Gilead Baptist Church in Canoochee. There will be an open visitation Friday September 10, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home; no family will be present due to COVID-19 precautions, however. She passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021 at her residence in Swainsboro following an extended illness.

Mrs. Annie Mae Kemp was born July 26, 1934 in Canoochee to the late Eriah Washington and Alice Oglesby Washington. She loved singing, cooking family meals, and taking care of her children and grandchildren. She also loved to work and had a great work ethic. She was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church for more than 50 years; there, she served as a choir member. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon Kemp; and brother, Eriah Washington Jr.

Survivors include her sons, Jeffery Washington, David Kemp, and Bernard Kemp all of Swainsboro; daughters, Ella (Lanny) Davis of Decatur and Lisa (Davis) Brown of Augusta; brother, Melton Washington of Grovetown; caretaker, Me’Sha Dixon of Adrian; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro is in charge of arrangements.
