While many at home were attending the Pine Tree Festival, one local teenager was out of town on Saturday. Cooper Riner has been playing on the Under Armour Youth Tour since late March, and he continued his golfing expedition this past weekend.
Riner traveled to Bacon Park Golf Course in Savannah on May 7 and returned home with a second-place finish in his age group. Riner shot a 45 on the day.
His latest second-place finish was his second on the tour. On his previous stop, he finished second as well at Lost Plantation Golf Course.
Before that, Riner won the tournament opener for his division at Osprey Cove Golf Course.
He will next compete at Crosswinds Golf Course in Savannah this Sunday, May 15.
Each stop in the tour affords golfers like Riner the opportunity to accumulate points, which, if high enough, translate to a berth to play in Summer Nationals at the pristine PGA National course in West Palm Beach, Florida. This year’s finale will take place June 22 through June 26.
Look for updates to continue in this publication on Riner’s journey to Florida.
He is the 14-year-old son of Kris and JoAnna Riner and Chesley and Bridget Dixon. His “MeMe” is Debbie Riner.
