Another win for Lady Tiger hoopers

An opponent finally got the best of Swainsboro High’s Lady Tiger basketball team, who was riding an outstanding 15-game win streak. Statesboro would snap that victory pattern this past Saturday—but not before Swainsboro picked up yet another win on the year.

The Lady Tigers’ 15th win came Friday, January 28, against Jeff Davis. This match-up was Swainsboro’s win with the closest margin, but in the end, the effort was enough for a 43–40 victory.

Leading the way were a few familiar names this season: sophomore Jayden Wynn with 16 points, seniors Jada Murphy and Meyah Rawls with 6 points each, and freshman Tonia Ricks added 6 points of her own.

With a hard-fought win under their belt, the 15–0 Lady Tigers had plenty of momentum going into their game against Statesboro. However, momentum alone wouldn’t be enough. Swainsboro had played a ringer of a schedule leading up to the clash against the Lady Blue Devils from Class AAAAAA, and the Lady Tigers seemingly hit a brick wall, falling for the first time this year 58–34.

Just in time for the playoffs, Coach Alex Walden has time to divert her team’s focus from the heartbreaker loss that did away with the hope of an undefeated season. Three games remain on Swainsboro’s schedule: Vidalia this Friday on the road, Treutlen this Saturday on the road, and Jefferson County at home next Saturday, February 12.

Look for results in a future edition of The Chronicle.

The varsity boys fell in both their games last week. Jeff Davis beat the Tigers 61–53, and Statesboro beat Swainsboro 72–42.
