Band students from Swainsboro Middle perform at Georgia Aquarium

Swainsboro Middle School’s band program had a successful year, putting on six public performances in addition to receiving top honors at multiple competitions as a group and as individuals. The band’s final performance of the year took place May 17 at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.
Ninety-eight students made the trip and performed selections from their spring concert. Played on the pavilion in front of the aquarium, Swainsboro Middle’s performance was open to the public.
More excitement followed the concert as students went through exhibits and met with a Swainsboro High alumni who works as a trainer for Georgia Aquarium.
Noelle Cann, a 2011 graduate and former Band of Gold danceline member, spoke with the group and put on a show with her sea lion, Hunter. Afterward, she hung around with the band and talked with students about sea lions in general, the daily routines of a trainer like herself, and the educational background needed to pursue a similar career.
As the 2021-2022 school year comes to a close, Swainsboro Middle’s band would like to thank Superintendent Scotty Hattaway, members of the Emanuel County Board of Education, their school’s administration as well as the administrative team at Swainsboro High, and the many businesses and individuals across Emanuel for the multitude of continued support.
