Basketball tournament to memorialize organizer’s late infant daughter

Two classmates, Fabian Maple and Trivial Green, have come together to organize a basketball tournament with a special purpose: to memorialize Maple’s late daughter, Fallyn.

Registration for Fallyn’s Basketball Tournament is now underway. The event is set to take place June 19, 2021 at 9 a.m. at Swainsboro-Emanuel County Recreation Department. There will be brackets for both male and female teams. The fee to enter a male team is $250 while the entry fee for female teams is $120. Proceeds will go toward the cash prize for each of the winning teams from the two brackets. The deadline to enter is June 12. Most teams will be from Emanuel County, with the exception of a few. The max amount of teams to be permitted will be 12, and each team can only have seven players on its roster. Whether the tournament will be single- or double-elimination will depend on the number of teams participating.

Maple says he decided to put on the tournament a few weeks ago after he and his wife, Tekerra, lost their daughter on April 17. He asked Green to help him, and his longtime friend obliged without hesitation. The two were former teammates at Swainsboro High and graduated together in 2011. Maple went on to play basketball at Morris College.

“I just wanted to do something I love to have a good memory of a lost loved one,” he said. “If you’re interested in entering a team, call me at 706-551-2919. If you want to come out and watch, we welcome you to do that, too.”
