Bell, Proctor are state runner-up in tennis

David Emanuel Academy sent two teams to the 2022 GAPPS Individual Tennis State Tournament earlier this week, and one team finished second overall in the state.

Freshman Kyli Bell and sophomore Emma Proctor traveled to the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College on Monday and entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed.

They first took on Emily Waddell and Edith English from Rock Springs Christian Academy and won, advancing to the next round, which would pit them against DEA’s other team in the tournament, Ashlyn Hall and Jaylin Hall, who entered as the No. 2 seed.

Bell and Proctor came out on top again and advanced a second time. The semifinal round put them across the court from Grace Christian Academy’s Ella Harrell and Kassidy Widner, and it would be another David Emanuel victory as Bell and Proctor moved on to the finals.

Their run at the state title would end just short of a trophy and a spot in the record books as The Habersham School’s Erin Lambert and Anna Thompson came away with the win.
