Blanche (Hood) Simmons, 95


Mrs. Blanche Hood Simmons, 95, of Swainsboro passed away Monday, July 18, 2022, at Emanuel Medical Center following a short illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2022, in the chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with J. T. Thompson delivering the eulogy and Reverend Ray Jenkins and Reverend Tommy Henry officiating. Interment followed in Moxley Cemetery. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2022, at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were J. T. Thompson, Susie Thompson Hall, Lucas Thompson, William Hood, Craig Peebles and Jeff Overstreet. Honorary pallbearers were Kathy Hood and Jerry Hood.

Mrs. Simmons was born December 6, 1926, in Washington County to Susie Kate Poole Hood and John Marshall Hood. She taught elementary and middle school in Chatham County School System before her retirement. She enjoyed reading, sewing, crossword puzzles, watching the Atlanta Braves and most of all, being with her family and friends. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Oak Chapel Baptist Church, where she was the pianist for many years.

MRs. Simmons was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everett Fisher “Buck” Simmons; great-grandson, Tony Thompson; and brothers, Joseph Hood, Winton Hood, Herman Hood, and Marvin Hood.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Payne and Paula Thompson (Larry), both of Swainsboro; grandchildren, J.T. Thompson, Susie Thompson Hall, and Lucas Thompson, all of Swainsboro; great-granddaughter, Emily Thompson; many nieces and nephews.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of the arrangements.
