Bobby Johnson, 84


Funeral services for Bobby Johnson, 84 of Midville, were held Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Union Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Carnley officiating. Interment followed at Johnson Cemetery in Summertown. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at Union Grove United Methodist Church on Saturday morning. He died Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Emanuel Medical Center.

Mr. Bobby Johnson was born May 26, 1937 in Atlanta, Fulton County to the late Melmon and Lucy Johnson. He was a 1955 graduate of Summertown High School, serving as valedictorian of his class. Mr. Johnson served his country in the U.S. Army and retired from Union Camp Chemical Plant as a lab tech after 43 years. He enjoyed the bowling league, fishing, and had a soft spot for his cats and animals. The highlight of his week was lunch at the Midville Café and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Union Grove United Methodist Church and, in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by his loving wife of 29 years, Dorothy “Dot” Greenway Johnson; sister, Betty Howard; and brothers, Bill Johnson and Barney Johnson.

Survivors include his daughters, Jan Snooks (Elmer Thompson) of Swainsboro and Debbie O “Deb” Gay of Live Oak, Florida; grandchildren: Missy Mills (Rodney), Timothy Woods, Olivia Reynolds (Brent), John R. “J.R.” Gay Jr., Jonathan Gay, and Kimberly Southers (B.J.); 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews ,and extended family; and “Buck,” his beloved peacock.

Rudy Lindsay, Hagan Lee, Mitch Johnson, Justin Howard, Hunter Howard, Jeff Johnson and Jimmy Tanner were pallbearers. Members of Union Grove United Methodist Church were honorary pallbearers.
