BOE honors community service

The Emanuel County Board of Education met on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. at the Central Office for a celebration of service for outgoing board member, Ms. Phyllis Dixon. The monthly regular meeting then started at 5:30 p.m. with the following members in attendance: John Allen Bailey, Del Brown, Phyllis Dixon, Mason Henry, Tanya Lane, Johnny Parker and Sandra Swinney. The amended agenda was approved as presented.

The October Awards for F.A.M.I.L.Y. and P.A.U.S.E. were presented by Ms. Tammy Gray who recognized Judy Gay, 2nd Grade Teacher at Twin City Elementary for the F.A.M.I.L.Y. award and Lily Kate Robertson, 12th Grader at ECI, for the P.A.U.S.E. award.

Dr. Denise Warnock shared the Governor’s Honors District Nominees would be recognized at the January 10, 2022 monthly board meeting. She went on to recognize the girl’s state softball champions: (11th and 12th graders) Kaylan Lamb, Jarei Oglesby, Kelsey Harper, Asia Gibbons, Lily Robertson, Amber Harden, Sullee Boddiford, Ally Taylor, Charla Clifton, Karly Olliff, Shayla Stephenson; (9th and 10th graders) Abbey Marsh, Hailey Way, Maddie Funderburk, Lola Walden, Kinley Grimes, Jenna Grace Roberson, Jayna Kearson, Ronnee' Russell, Kayanna Thompson, Briley Wommack. She shared her appreciation for all their coaches: Frank Wimberly, Bryanna Riner, Kolbie Motes, Jessica Wimberly, and Mikell Clifton.

Finally Dr. Denise Warnock gave a CCRPI update which was a list of baseline scores that will be used for following years. The Crossroads Chronicle will followup in an upcoming article with an explanation of scores.

Mollie Smith followed with the financial update. In line with the changes made to entice and retain more nutrition and paraprofessional staff, the custodial salary schedule was increased. `

The board revised the amendment to the Mandatory Addendum pertaining to SES Renovations. They went on to adopt the 2023 Proposed BOE Meeting Calendar, Georgia DPH Georgia Southern University K-12 Covid-19 Mitigation Project, the expansion of East Georgia Healthcare Partnership to Tiger Trail, and the purchase of Two 2023 72-Passenger Diesel Buses.

In the executive session, the board approved the employment of the following classified employees: Justin Fulmer, Assistant Manager SPS; Betsy Myers, SFS Worker; Shateria Jenkins, Bus Driver Transportation. The Board also approved the resignation of the following certified employees: Brittney Arrington, Teacher; Bethany Gay, Teacher; Precious Swinney, Teacher. The board approved the resignations of the following classified employees: Kristi Griffin, Parapro; Stacie Sause, SFS Manager; Michael Shepard, SFS Worker. Finally, the board approved the transfer of the following certified employee: Livia Daniel, Media Specialist SPS to TCE.
