Brentwood Shool repeats as basketball state champs

SANDERSVILLE — Brentwood School has officially repeated as the GISA Class AA state champions. The Lady Eagles defeated Piedmont in the title game on Saturday, February 26.

Brentwood’s varsity girls breezed through their schedule this year, downing every opponent but one. They amassed a 30–1 record on the season and went 14–0 in league play. Nearby Bulloch Academy was the only opposition all year long to get the best of the Lady Eagles, downing them in a close game, 56–54, back in November.

Before that game and every game following, head coach Kena Lindsey have found a way to win. In playoff action alone, they outscored their opponents 234–109, beating out Windsor 76–16 in the first round on February 15, Gatewood 54–27 in the second round on February 18, Southwest Georgia Academy 50–36 in the Final Four on February 25, and Piedmont 54–30 in the championship on Saturday.

On the winning roster are Hannah Lindsey, Anne Marie Sheppard, Shelby Daniel, Faith Archer, Cameran Francis, Margaret Lynn Simms, Isabel Ahrens, Sophie Boutelle, Caitlyn McCrary, Jacey Clark, Emerson Shepherd, Faith Black, Morgan Massengale, Cadence English, and Bailey Barron.

Securing this year’s title also secured the special repeat. Brentwood downed Westwood for last year’s Class AA championship.

Brentwood also won the Class AA football title this past fall.
