Brier Creek Artillery sounds start of scramble

For the third year running, the Brier Creek Artillery gave the official start to annual golf tournament in Screven County.
At event organizers’ request, Commander Steve Burke and Dess Smith III, both of Swainsboro, and Don Bazemore of Sylvania met at Brier Creek Country Club last Saturday, May 21, and fired their 6-pounder naval cannon and flintlock rifles at 9:30 a.m. sharp, thereby officially beginning the 3rd Annual Corporal G. Alex Mincey Memorial Golf Scramble.
Compatriot Scotty Scott crafted a sign and presented it to the trio for their assistance with the event.
