Brooks Collins and his 2022 Bulldog baseball team are off to a great start this season. So far, the undefeated crew has beaten Toombs County, Washington County, and Swainsboro—all three of which are programs from schools doubly larger than ECI.
Emanuel County Institute’s season officially got underway last Monday as ECI traveled to Toombs County, a Class AA competitor, for a Bulldog-versus-Bulldog match-up. In the end, the Dawgs won the opener 12–3.
Action continued this past weekend as ECI made the short trip to Swainsboro for the annual Citizens Bank Invitational Tournament.
The second game of the invitational pitted the Bulldogs against the Golden Hawks of Washington County, who play in Class AA as well. ECI made easy work of their opponent, winning 10–4.
The Bulldogs took on host Swainsboro, another Class AA competitor, in the tournament finale and won 6–4.
ECI faced its biggest opponent yet in Class AAA’s Burke County yesterday evening. Both teams were 3–0 heading into the contest and appeared to be evenly matched as both programs fell in the opening round of the playoffs last season.
Additionally, the Bulldogs will be rematched with Toombs County on Saturday.
Look for results from both contests in next week’s edition of The Crossroads Chronicle.
