Burke presents program at 41st Annual Colby Smith Reunion

Updated: Dec 29, 2021

On Saturday, October 16, descendants of Revolutionary War Patriot Colby Smith traveled to the Bethany Baptist Church in Washington County to take part in the 41st Annual Colby Smith Reunion at 10:30 a.m.

At that time, Artillery Commander and Compatriot Steve Burke of the Wiregrass Chapter of the Georgia Society – Sons of the American Revolution delivered a program entitled “The American Soldier.” He was introduced as the presented by President Dess Smith III, who presided over the occasion, which saw 26 attendees.

Following Burke’s program, Co-President Wilder Smith Jr. called roll of the descendants of Colby’s nine children: Lucy, Thomas, John, Annie, Micajah, Rebecca, Mary, Isaac, and George.

After a business session and the election of 2021-2022 officers, Co-President Smith led a memorial for the descendants who had passed away. He then closed the reunion with a prayer before the group moved outside for a three-round firing of .75-caliber Brown Bess muskets and a six-pounder naval cannon by Wiregrass Chapter members.

The group also enjoyed a covered dish meal.

Next year’s reunion will be held Oct. 15, 2022.
