Carson Jones, 42


Funeral services for Carson Jones, 42 of Twin City, were held Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Jones Family Farm, located at 1436 Scarboro Church Rd, Twin City, GA 30471, with Pastor Michael Plowman officiating. Interment followed at Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. An open visitation was held Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home. He passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at AU Medical Center in Augusta following a brief illness.

Mr. Carson Jones was born February 2, 1979 in Swainsboro to Sammy Jones and Brenda McDaniel Jones. A 1997 graduate of Emanuel County Institute, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved farming with his father. Mr. Jones began his career with the Georgia Forestry Commission in September 1999. He remained as a ranger in his home county of Emanuel for 14.5 years. He enjoyed assisting landowners with their plowing and burn assist needs. He also discovered a passion for fighting wildfires.

In March 2014, Mr. Jones was promoted to the level of chief ranger over the Jenkins/Screven units. He served there for 2.5 years. The opportunity arose for him to transfer back to his beloved home county and serve as the chief ranger there from September 2016 until the present. He promoted up to level of Chief Ranger 3, the highest level that can be achieved as a chief ranger. Mr. Jones also served as the safety officer for Area 8, a 12-county area, since August 2012.

He loved to help others by fighting wildland fires. He loved to hone and test his skills in various environments. Mr. Jones took numerous opportunities to work outside his home unit and state, serving on large fires in south Georgia, north Georgia, Texas, Idaho, Montana, Florida, California, Virginia, Arizona, and Oklahoma. He will be missed by the Georgia Forestry Commission and the whole wildland firefighting community.

Above all else, Mr. Jones loved his family and children. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Buster and Christine Jones, and maternal grandfather, Billy McDaniel.

Survivors include his parents, Sammy and Brenda Jones of Twin City; son, Cody Landon Jones of Twin City; daughter, Sierra Addison Jones of Twin City; brother, Matt (Lisa) Jones of Vidalia; maternal grandmother, LaVerne McDaniel of Kite; nephew, Blake Jones; nieces, Taylor Jones and Ansley Jones, all of Vidalia; special friend and daughter, Kasie Jenkins and Mileigh Jenkins of Glenville; and several uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.

Pallbearers were Doug Claxton, Brandon Beasley, Bubba Bird, Benji Anderson, Randy Mosley, and Rick Lane. Honorary pallbearers were the employees of Georgia Forestry Commission.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cody & Sierra Jones Fund, C/O Durden Banking Company, 111 North Railroad Avenue, Twin City, GA 30471.

Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
