Chamber Member Spotlight: Interfor

The company known today as Interfor originated with a sawmill in Whonnock, British Columbia in the 1930s. Since that time, the business has made significant investments to expand, upgrade, and diversify its production facilities and timber base through capital programs and the acquisition of manufacturing plants and timber resources.

The name was changed to Interfor Corporation in 2014, and its subsidiary, Interfor U.S. Inc., owns and operates U.S. sawmills. The Swainsboro mill was acquired in 2013 when the company acquired the assets of Rayonier Inc.’s Wood Products Business. According to the Interfor 2012 Annual Report, the acquisition was consistent with the company’s strategy of adding capacity in attractive regional markets and would establish a foothold for Interfor in the southeastern United States.

Interfor is a growth-oriented forest products company with operations in Canada and the United States, making the company one of the world’s largest lumber providers. The business has an annual production capacity of approximately 3.9 billion board feet and offers a diverse line of lumber products to customers around the world. Interfor is the largest lumber producer in Georgia with southern yellow pine contributing to its highest percentage of lumber sales. With that capacity, Interfor serves the needs of customers, strengthens local economies, and builds value for employees and shareholders.

Interfor’s mission is to build value in everything the company does, every day. Interfor embodies its brand through the company’s values, which includes: conducting business with honesty and integrity; respecting, valuing, and engaging employees; embracing world-leading safety and environmental standards; being strategic, fact-based, and proactive; and striving for excellence. Interfor values the idea that the company is responsible for its own success, and the business’s vision is to be the most profitable, valuable, and respected forest products company in the world. Interfor’s hiring process is quick and engaging, and the team works to ensure there is a match between Interfor and each employee that is hired.

Interfor is a member of the Swainsboro-Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce because the company values community involvement. Interfor sponsors the River Rat Project that supports Shriner hospitals, the Summer Reading Project through Franklin Memorial Library, the Southeastern Technical College Foundation, the Swainsboro High School Athletic Boosters, the Emanuel County Institute Athletic Boosters, and the David Emanuel Academy Athletic Boosters.
