“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” — Isaiah 9:6
A group of shepherds in Bethlehem have come forward claiming to have seen the promised Messiah. The men say they were keeping watch in the field when an angel of the Lord appeared to them, the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified—but the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people! Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly, a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven and on earth peace to those whom His favor rests.”
Indeed, away in a manger inside a humble, small stable in Bethlehem (as there were no rooms available at the inn), a boy, Jesus, was born to his virgin mother, Mary, and her husband, Joseph, that night.
When the angel appeared to the shepherds and relayed the good news, they went immediately to the stable and laid eyes on Jesus, just as the angel had told them. They spread this news, and everyone who heard was in wonder.
Jesus was eventually be visited by a group of wisemen, who brought gifts befitting a king like Him. He went on to live a sinless life and die on Calvary so that sinners who believe in Him as the Son of God and who accept Him into their hearts may have everlasting life.
Merry Christmas to all from The Crossroads Chronicle. Our office will be closed Thursday, December 23, and Friday, December 24, in observance of Jesus’s birthday. May you and your family be blessed by Him and always remember the reason for the season.
