City, county proclaim November 7 as day to honor retired teachers
The City of Swainsboro as well as the County of Emanuel met representatives of the Emanuel Retired Educators Association (EREA) last Thursday and signed proclamations that set Sunday, November 7, as a special day to honor retired teachers.
Signing the city’s proclamation was Mayor Charles Schwabe while Commission Chairman Jim Sherrod signed the county’s.
The local observations of Retired Educators Day add to a multitude of others across the state honoring the service of retired educators to the community. Many educational retirees volunteer teaching Sunday school, reading to children, substituting in classrooms, working with elections, and participating in service organizations.
