City playground floods

By Natalia Carter

Phyllis Jackson lives across from Vann Community Center and Park on Roberts Street. Last Sunday, January 21st, she watched the waters rise. She said, “Oh, Lord, it about ran out to the road.”

Enough rain fell to flood the community center’s back entrance along with the playground. Since the area is at the bottom of a slope, a majority of the playground, including the bottom steps of the metal slide and the slide itself, were well underwater, while the swings touched the surface. Two or three more inches of rain and the bridge that crosses from one end of the park to the other would have been fully immersed.

Hopefully, there will be no lasting damage to the community center or playground equipment.

Do you have photos of flooding from areas in town? If so, please submit them to deanna@thecrossroads.news.
