The Wiregrass Chapter of the Georgia Society – Sons of the American Revolution held its July meeting last Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at New China Restaurant. Twenty-two people attended, including five guests: Ginny Smith, Mary Ellen Smith, Charlotte Russell, Susan Daughtry, and John David Bailey. President Wilder Smith Jr. presided.
Compatriot Hu Daughtry, a member of the Mill Creek Chapter of the GASSAR based out of Statesboro and a resident of Metter, presented the evening’s program.
While on hand in Swainsboro, Hu presented his program on “The Log House on the Left.” The author of several books began his talk on his Revolutionary War patriot, Jacob Daughtry, and continued his presentation, outlining his family to present day.
Next, Compatriot John Derden updated the Wiregrass Chapter on the progress of the Brier Creek Revolutionary War Battlefield Association (BCRWBA) in preserving the battlefield.
