Dawgs dominate Lanier County, advance to Elite Eight
By Justin Gray
The ECI Bulldogs hosted Lanier County in the Sweet Sixteen and sweet it was! The Bulldogs were the favorites and looking to stay hot in this series to keep on rolling. The bats were hot as always, but they only needed a couple when their ace Bryce Kearson was on the mound. Kearson is off to one of the best playoff starts that I’ve seen and he continued it in this one going seven innings and striking out 15 while only allowing one run. He also had a big game at the plate going 3-4. Hudson Henry, Tuff Boddiford, and Charlie Rehberg all drove in runs in the Dawgs 5-1 victory.
In game two, it was an explosion from the offense as they totaled 14 runs on 14 hits. Leading the way at the plate was Kearson and PJ Farnum who combined for six hits, five runs, and seven RBI. Five Dawgs had multi-hit games in the 14-3 win. On the mound for the Dawgs was Jacob Durden, he went five innings allowing three runs and striking out six, Lawson Mercer came in relief and struck out all six batters he faced.
After the series sweep, the Dawgs advance to the Elite Eight where they will host Towns County with a chance to go to the Final Four! Towns County comes in with a 22-11 record and the two-seed from Region 8, they won their last series in three games losing the middle game.
Game one is Wednesday, May 10 at 3:00 P.M. with game two following shortly after, if the series goes to a game three it will be Thursday, May 11 at 3:00 P.M. Go pack the stands as the Dawgs get a step closer! You can buy tickets at the gate for $10 or Thursday for the one day for $7.
