Dawgs headed to state title
By Justin Gray
When you hear ECI vs Schley County, you know it is premier high school baseball. From state title matchups to first round matchups, both teams put up quite the fight. The Dawgs made the 2 hour and 40 minute drive west to Schley County because they lost the coin flip for home field advantage. This was a three game series for a chance to go to the State Championship.
The Dawgs stuck with their same plan, giving the ball to their ace Bryce Kearson who replicated the same performance as he does every week, going the whole game. He struck out five and allowed only two runs. The offense took the bats right off the grill as they stayed hot with a 6-2 win in this one. Jacob Durden had two RBI in the game and Tuff Boddiford led hitters with two hits.
Game two the Bulldogs did the opposite of last week and went with Jacob Durden. It’s safe to say that was a great choice as he went six innings and struck out eight batters. Kearson came back in after his game one performance and finished the job. P.J. Farnum led the team in hits with two along with his two RBI. The Bulldogs won this one 5-3 to sweep Schley County and punch their ticket to the State Championship.
The Bulldogs are now 8-0 in the playoffs and their overall record is now 30-8. They will now head to Georgia Southern University’s J.I. Clements Stadium to take on Charlton County in the big one. Charlton County comes in at 34-4 and have swept their way through the playoffs as well. The Bulldogs have their work cut out for them, but that’s what it’s all about. Game one is at 5:00 P.M. and Game two will follow. Go pack out the stadium and cheer on the Dawgs as they chase history!
