Dawgs pick up Region sweep

By Justin Gray

The Dawgs hosted game one of the three-game Region set with McIntosh County Academy on Tuesday, March 14. The Dawgs came out swinging in this one as they scored eight runs in the second inning behind home runs from Jacob Durden, Bryce Kearson, and Hudson Henry. The Bulldogs tallied 14 hits in the 15-4 win. Lawson Mercer was the winning pitcher as he went five innings surrendering four runs on four hits and struck out three batters.

For games two and three, the Dawgs traveled to MCA’s place. These were two great games. The first one of the day was a 6-3 win for the Dawgs. They got the scoring started in the first as Lawson Mercer knocked in a run on a groundout. The Dawgs tacked on three more in the third all off the bats of Gabe Lee, Mercer, and Hudson Henry. Kearson went the distance on the mound allowing only three runs and striking out six.

In game three, the Dawgs went for the sweep of the Buccaneers and it was a pitcher’s duel. Jacob Durden started the game for the Bulldogs and went seven innings allowing only one run while striking out eight and getting the 2-1 win. Charlie Rehberg led the way at the plate as he had three of the Dawgs 11 hits. The Dawgs played a flawless game in the field leading to this win.

This week the Bulldogs will take on Jenkins County in a Region three-game set. The first was held Tuesday, March 21 at Jenkins County. The last two will be at home on Friday, March 24. Come support these Dawgs as they roll through Region play. There were no game results from Tuesdays game at Jenkins County as of press time.
